Vail Valley Medical Center Announced as Presenting Sponsor of Kids Adventure Race
The Vail Recreation District (VRD) announced Vail Valley Medical Center (VVMC) will be joining in as presenting sponsor of the 2012 Vail Kids Adventure Race. Vail's premier race for children ages six to 12 features mountain biking hiking ziplines a Tarzan rope Slope-n-Slide tubing and more and has been hugely popular. Spots in the third annual KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race on Aug. 11-12 are rapidly filling and the pre-event skills workshops new this year are already full with wait lists.
Last year's sold-out race offered 100 teams of two the thrill of adventure racing on Vail Mountain and in Vail's villages while challenging them in friendly competition teamwork and problem-solving skills.
"Vail Valley Medical Center is a proud supporter of the Vail Rec District and the Kids Adventure Race" said Lindsay Warner communications manager at Vail Valley Medical Center. "Physical activity is obviously an important component to health and I can't think of a more fun way to get active than at the KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race."
In addition to VVMC as one of the key sponsors the 2012 event will showcase several other exciting changes including optional workshops for young competitors and a free Strider Cup competition for soon-to-be athletes too young to participate in the the Kids Adventure Race.
"The skills workshops we're offering before the event this year have been an incredibly popular addition" said VRD race organizer Beth Pappas. "We wanted to give participants a chance to sample and practice some of the challenges they'll face on the course and the workshops filled up right away. There is a waiting list for people interested in participating in the practice sessions with the possibility of more sessions being added."
The KidSport Strider Cup is a new race this year for kids two to five
The KIDSport Strider Cup another new highlight to the 2012 event also looks to be well-received. The free competition will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday Aug. 11 at Solaris in Vail Village and will allow kids ages two through 5 to show off their speed. A maximum of 50 little racers will compete and need their own Strider-type bike and a helmet to participate.
"We hope that these children will make life-long habits to stay active and grow to be active healthy adults" said Warner.
During the Kids Adventure Race on Sunday Aug. 12 115 teams of two will compete throughout Vail in an adventure like no other. This year the 200 plus competitors will face challenges -- such as the Slope-n-Slide tubing zip lines and rock climbing -- that were favorites in past years plus some new undisclosed challenges as well. The course also will feature a new starting/staging area at Golden Peak adjacent to Larkspur Restaurant who will be providing great eats for racers and their families throughout the day.
Registration is $150 per team of two and teams will be divided into three age groups and categories for boys girls and coed teams. Registration will be limited to 115 teams and is available by calling the VRD at 970-479-2880. Last year's race sold out with a waiting list.
The 2012 KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race is presented by the Vail Valley Medical Center the Town of Vail Vail Resorts and KIDSport. Additional sponsors included Camelbak Cliff Bar The Parents Handbook KZYR 97.7 Vail Daily Larkspur Restaurant American National Bank and David Honda's Vail Sports Medicine Physical Therapy.
