Vail Valley Medical Center Volunteer Corps Celebrates Success at Annual Holiday Sales
The Vail Valley Medical Center (VVMC) Volunteer Corps have successfully raised $2365 during its last two bakes sale fundraisers. The first was the annual Holiday Baked Goods and Ornament Sale at VVMC where the volunteers raised $1465 selling baked goods and gently-used holiday decorations. The second with a Valentine theme at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center brought in $900. Over the past five years the VVMC Volunteer Corps have raised more than $21000 through its annual bake sales.
Volunteer Jacquie Landt a Stella and Dot sales person set up a display and donated all proceeds from her jewelry sales to the Volunteer Corps at both sales. A big thank you goes out to the many local restaurants and bakeries who also donated goods and time including: Columbine Bakery Batter Cupcakes Alpenrose Avon Bakery and Deli Mountain Cupcakes Arrabelle & Magpies Pie Shop and Bakery. We greatly appreciated all of these donations at our sales!
This year the VVMC Volunteer Corps is focusing its fundraising efforts to donate towards the purchase of a Breast Tomosynthesis machine.
Breast Tomosynthesis is a 3D image of the breast compared to the traditional 2D breast imaging currently used. This technology will bring our breast center to the forefront of women's imaging. Tomosynthesis captures the breast tissue in 1mm slices allowing the radiologist to the ability to visualize breast tissue without overlapping tissue. This new technology will help reduce the need for calling back the patient for diagnostic imaging and increase our early breast cancer detection rate.
This new technology is similar to comparing CT scanning with standard plain image radiology. It is vital that we have tomosynthesis available for our patients so that we can continue to offer them the best technology available according to Doctor Janice J. Ugale.
March 29th marks the largest fundraiser of the year. The Volunteer Corps annual Fashion Show and Luncheon sponsored by U.S. Bank which will be held at the Vail Mountain Marriott Resort and Spa. This year celebrates the 26th anniversary of this most popular event with the theme My Big Fabulous Greek Fashion Show. Prepare to be transported to Greece with fashions by Pepi's models walking the catwalk and lots of surprise entertainment. A silent auction will precede the show with generous donations from local vendors and community members alike.
