Stronger Every Year: Fitness As You Age

Vail Health invites the community to join us for a free event with Dr. Sarah Robinson, Lindsey Duhamel, DPT, PT, and Genevieve Harrison, UESCA certified coach, for a casual evening of conversation on fitness. These experts will share insights on staying fit as you age, cultivating a fitness-focused mindset, and preventing injuries along the way. Light dinner will be served for event attendees!

Fitness Topics Covered on September 16:

Dr. Sarah Robinson will be discussing weight training vs weight bearing and what someone can do to stay active as they age. She will also touch on prevention of osteoarthritis in women.

Genevieve Harrison, UESCA certified coach and Vail Health Healtspan coach, will touch on the importance of setting SMART goals and building your fitness community. She will explain the psychology of group fitness and why it works.

Lindsey Duhamel, DPT, PT from Howard Head Sports Medicine will cover proper warm-up techniques and recovery tips for your active lifestyle.

Thank you for joining us for our free nutrition event with Dr. Susan Vickerman, Melaine Hendershott, MS, RDN, CSO and Lilia Brown, FNP. Summaries and notes from our speakers' presentations are found below.

Dr. Susan Vickerman discussed eating for the household and the “why” behind choosing healthy foods. Her goal is to empower the audience to make the right decisions about the foods we eat. 

Lilia Brown, FNP touched on how inflammation plays a key role in aging, weight gain, fatigue, brain fog and joint pain. She shared how certain anti-inflammatory foods and key supplements can help you feel more vibrant, energized and resilient.

Melaine Hendershott, RDN, CSO talked about the importance of meal planning, common deficits in your diet, and how to combat them with things you can eat. She provided tips and tricks for your weekly grocery shopping trip.
