The Açaí Craze
There is a certain craze around açaí bowls, and for good reason. They're delicious and incredibly nutritious--açaí is packed with fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. And with endless options to customize the smoothie mixture and toppings, once you start making your own açaí bowls at home, you'll look for ways to perfect the already-perfect concoction for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack!
Basic Açaí Bowl Recipe
Ingredients- 2 packets unsweetened frozen açaí berry blend (Costco carries a wonderful blend)
- 1 cup additional frozen fruit of your choice (berries, pineapple and peaches are all delicious additions)
- ½-1 cup liquid of your choice (milk or non-dairy alternative, juice or water)
- Toppings (the options are endless!)
- Fresh or frozen berries
- Bananas, pineapple, peaches, nectarines or any other seasonal fruit
- Granola (lots of great options in the cereal aisle or make your own!)

- Peanut or almond butter (try heating in the microwave for 30-60 seconds for a drizzle effect)
- Local honey
- Coconut flakes
- Nuts (sliced almonds, pepitas)
- Flax seed
- Chocolate chips (if you dare!)
- Dried fruit (cranberries, chopped apricots, goji berries)
In a high-powered blender, combine the açaí berry packets, frozen fruit and liquid of choice. Blend until completely smooth, adding more liquid if necessary, until your smoothie blends smoothly. Pour into a bowl and top with your favorite toppings. Enjoy immediately!
