Biography

Dr. Nissen is a board certified general psychiatrist who recently completed his residency training at the University of Kansas Medical Center and his medical school training at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. While he has experience in treating a broad range of psychiatric conditions, he has a special interest in treatment-resistant cases of depression, substance-use issues and PTSD. Dr. Nissen is also interested in increasing access to alternative treatment modalities such as TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) and ketamine infusions. He is thrilled to begin his career at Colorado Mountain Medical and is committed to bringing top line mental health care to the Vail Valley.

Dr. Nissen was born in Oklahoma to an Air Force family and moved around quite frequently at a young age before settling in Colorado Springs in 1999. After completing college at the University of Colorado at Boulder he left to complete his medical school and residency training out of state. He was eager to return to Colorado as his love for the mountains only grew while he lived elsewhere. He is happiest when spending time outdoors with his wife Paige, who will also be starting her career at Colorado Mountain Medical. In the summer you will find them walking the trails with their black lab Luke Skybarker and in the winter you will find them racing down the slopes of Vail Mountain and enjoying the world class scenery in the valley.
