Biography

Dr. Gallizzi came to Vail after starting his career in Denver, Colorado. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned his BS in Economics, and the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science/Chicago Medical School, where he completed his master’s degree in Healthcare Management as well as his Medical Degree. He was awarded the prestigious John Sheinin Research award in addition to graduating with a Distinction in Research for his publications in medical school.

He completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Missouri where he was awarded the Steve Olson MD resident research award and worked with both Big 12 and SEC team physicians for collegiate athletics.

During his adult degenerative spine fellowship at Duke University, he served as a clinical instructor in orthopaedic adult spinal surgery. At Duke, he ran a biomechanics lab where he performed research and biomechanical testing for motion preservation technology.

He has authored over 50 publications including research articles, book chapters, paper presentations and podium presentations. In addition, he is one of the few surgeon sites in the United States who regularly trains surgeons from all over the world in Robotic and Endoscopic spine surgery techniques. He is a regular peer reviewer for the Global Spine Journal, a research publication of AO spine, and continues to work on his personal research initiatives.

In 2022, he was nominated by his peers and awarded the distinction of a Castle Connolly top doctor in the United States.

The son of a first-generation Italian American, Dr. Gallizzi decided to become an orthopaedic surgeon after he and his mother were involved in a serious bicycle accident. He watched his mother endure 16 different orthopaedic surgical procedures during the first 18 years of his life.

Dr. Gallizzi is a cancer survivor and is married to his college sweetheart. They both are involved with animal rescue organizations and have two rescue dogs.
