Manager - HIM Operations

The HIM (Health Information Manager) is accountable for ensuring quality services across those applicable areas, including release of information (ROI), document imaging, chart management/analysis, chart completion (includes provider escalation) and delinquency processes, Data Integrity, birth certificates, transcription support, record retrieval, record retention and project management. Plans work, organizes resources, motivates and monitors staff performance, and contributes to the overall budget planning and control for the Department.
- Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates work of assigned employees to ensure HIM production and quality standards consistently meet customer needs and service level agreements. Responsible for HIM operations staff with recruitment, hiring, training/education, performance metrics measurement, evaluation, planning (corrective action) and/or termination in consultation with Human Resources, where appropriate. Mentors/coaches and develops staff, serving as a role model and primary resource.
- Approves department expenses and is responsible for budgeting activities as directed by the Director of HIM.
- Assists internal customers with navigation through educational initiatives.
- Responsible for development of site/service goals in collaboration with the HIM Director
- Develops area/team specific policies and procedures to ensure/support quality Vail Health HIM services
- The Manager plans, develops, organizes, and coordinates all HIM functions to ensure proper maintenance and processing of medical records, associated risk management, audit, legal or other regulatory activities.
- Participates in various hospital/physician committees, including chairing the Forms Committee 8. Facilitates clinical practice internships with HIM program students.
- Identifies and attends training and educational programs conducive to professional growth.
- Arranges for routine in-service options for HIM operations staff and shares policies, procedures, and regulatory guidance.
- Routinely abides by standards of professional and ethical conduct as defined by CMS, AHIMA, and the professional organization from which the incumbent is certified and/or credentialed.

- Skills, knowledge, and abilities typically gained through 5+ years of related experience, including supervisory or management level experience, in Health Information Management or similar setting.

- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required.
- Use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse and experience with basic Microsoft Office applications, required. Must possess the computer skills necessary to complete work assignments, online learning requirements for job specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Use of number pad on keyboard preferred.
- Ability to search resources and/or Internet to locate CMS and other regulatory websites for requirements and guidelines is required.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in health information technology required.
The posted salary range for this position applies to Colorado and may be adjusted based on geographic location. Vail Health considers a variety of factors in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, education, licensure and/or certifications, geographic location, market demand and other business and organizational needs.
