POSITION PURPOSE: 
This position involves a critical role in ensuring patient safety, optimizing surgical outcomes, and facilitating communication between healthcare providers. Assure expert, compassionate, individualized nursing care for patients and families is expected. Collaborate with providers, staff and other members of the team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. This position requires on-site presence.
 
This position is PRN or as needed.  Eligible for a 16% PRN Differential.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct a comprehensive pre-operative assessment, including medical history, allergies, current medications, and previous surgical experiences.
  • Identify and document any risk factors, such as comorbidities (e.g., diabetes, heart disease) that may affect the surgery.
  • Ensure that all necessary pre-operative diagnostic tests (bloodwork, EKG, X-rays) have been performed per surgical team direction and consult anesthesia as needed.
  • Coordinate with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other departments (e.g., lab, radiology) to ensure all necessary preparations are completed before surgery.
  • Coordinate with team to communicate needed and missing documentation and patient needs to ensure surgical team is aware of any missing items Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including patient consents, diagnostic test results, and pre-operative checklists.
  • Document all nursing interventions and communication with the healthcare team in the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provide clear instructions to patients regarding pre-operative preparations, including fasting, medication recommendations, and hygiene (e.g., using special antiseptic soaps), educate patients and families about the surgical procedure, expected recovery, and postoperative care and answer patient questions and address any concerns to reduce anxiety before surgery.
  • Adhere to Vail Health and PSP department expectations e.g. scheduling, performance, and productivity; adhere to remote expectations when applicable.

  • Must be HIPAA compliant

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • One year clinical experience required.
License(s):
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado or from a valid compact state required.

Certification(s):

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Education:
  • Minimum of Associate Nursing Degree for positions hired after 07/01/2018.

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.

Hourly Pay:
$37.90$60.45 USD
