Biography

Turner C. Lisle MD FACS is a board-certified general surgeon certified by the American Board of Surgery and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His practice focuses on the comprehensive surgical and non-surgical management of abdominal wall pathology. He specializes in open, laparoscopic, and daVinci robotic approaches to inguinal, umbilical, ventral, and incisional hernias, as well as complex abdominal wall reconstruction for recurrent and large ventral/incisional hernias in addition to common general surgical procedures.

Born and raised in Grand Junction, Colorado, Dr. Lisle earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Neurobiology from Colorado State University. He received his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, graduating summa cum laude and earning election to the esteemed Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Dr. Lisle completed his internship, residency, and fellowship at the prestigious University of Virginia Surgical Program in Charlottesville, Virginia. During his training, he was recognized for excellence in education and leadership, receiving the Mulholland Resident and Fellow Teaching Award, the Hugh Shepherd Warren Award, and the C. Walton Lillehei Award.

Following his training, Dr. Lisle joined a thriving surgical practice at The Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he played a key role in establishing and leading The Martha Jefferson Comprehensive Hernia Center.

Dr. Lisle has conducted research focused on groin and anterior abdominal wall surgery, physical therapy for hernia and abdominal wall surgery as well as the inflammatory effects of cardiopulmonary bypass. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, contributed book chapters, and presented his work at regional, national, and international meetings.

He currently serves as Medical Director of the Vail Health Comprehensive Hernia Center & Center for Robotic Surgery and is an active participant in the American Hernia Society, Robotic Surgery Collaborative and the International Hernia Collaboration.

Dr. Lisle is a Key Opinion Leader for Intuitive Surgical and Medtronic. He also serves as Site Director of Vail Health’s Epicenter, a designation awarded by Intuitive Surgical to select institutions recognized for excellence in robotic surgery. He hosts regional and national surgeons for advanced training in robotic general surgery, hernia repair, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. He also serves as a surgical proctor for Intuitive Surgical, helping train and mentor surgeons seeking to advance their skill set and expertise in robotic surgical techniques both regionally and nationally.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Lisle serves as the Trauma Program Medical Director for Vail Health’s CDPHE Level III Trauma Center as well as the Medical Director for Apex Mountain School. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
