Biography
Spine, Sports, Rehabilitation & Regenerative Medicine Specialist
Dr. David C. Karli joined The Steadman Clinic in 2003 and specializes in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Spinal Injection Therapies and Regenerative Medicine.
His expertise in interventional treatment of spinal and musculoskeletal disorders provides an additional dimension of expertise to The Steadman Clinic. Dr. Karli's clinical interest in regenerative medicine and the development of non-surgical interventions for a variety of conditions has led to the development of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP, Platelet Gel) and Bone Marrow Stem Cell injection therapy programs for patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries. He continues to focus his research on autologous blood and novel regenerative therapies that hold great promise for the development of future treatment protocols for musculoskeletal and spine disorders. To augment his research interests, Dr. Karli has successfully developed and launched a novel bio-therapeutics company, focused on optimization and quality assurance in production of biologics in orthopedic medicine (www.greyledgebiotech.com). He continues to work collectively with The Steadman Clinic in developing safe and effective use of these agents in both surgical and non-surgical applications.
Dr. Karli is a former collegiate athlete, who graduated with honors from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania. Following medical school at the University of Maryland, he completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. He subsequently joined the faculty at Harvard, and served as an Attending Physician with the Department of PM&R at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and as active staff at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mass General Hospital. While at Harvard, he created a successful outpatient practice, participated in the development of rehabilitation protocols for spinal disorders and formed clinical collaborations with Orthopedic Surgeon colleagues. Dr. Karli was instrumental in developing the first fluoroscopically guided spinal injection program at Spaulding. He has subsequently completed additional postgraduate education through the Daniel's College of Business at the University of Denver, earning his MBA in 2012.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Karli maintains active membership in multiple professional societies. He was a recent co-investigator in the first Level I randomized, double blind, placebo controlled clinical trial researching the efficacy of PRP in chronic tennis elbow, a landmark study slated for publication in the American Journal of Sports Medicine. He has lectured and written on spinal and musculoskeletal topics, Regenerative Medicine and has contributed to Spine and Sports Medicine textbooks.
Dr. Karli is pleased to announce the launch of a new bone marrow derived stem cell injection program for patients with arthritic conditions and both acute and chronic soft tissue disorders of muscle, tendon and ligament. Please contact the office to request additional information regarding this new biotherapy, and other treatment options offered with Dr. Karli.
