VAIL CO — Vail Valley Medical Center recently earned the Gold Seal of Approval® from The Joint Commission for demonstrating compliance with national standards for healthcare quality and safety in hospitals.

The Joint Commission’s hospital standards address important functions relating to the care of patients and the management of hospitals. The standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts providers measurement experts and patients.

The hospital underwent a rigorous unannounced on-site survey during which it was praised in many areas including the new Cardiac Catheterization & Electrophysiology Lab and Shaw Regional Cancer Center both of which were recognized as “incredible services for a hospital of this size.”

A team of four Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated all of VVMC’s sites and services for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients including infection prevention and control leadership and medication management. They commented “The staff clearly cares about the safety of the patient versus doing things simply to remain in compliance with regulations.” Surveyors also commented on the impressive quality of the medical and nursing staffs. The accreditation was awarded for a three-year period.
