As part of Shaw's Survivorship Program and commitment to treating the body, as well as the mind and spirit, our integrative services are designed to help patients cope with the cancer experience and improve their overall sense of well-being. Thanks to the generous support of The Marilyn Klein Cancer Support Fund and Pink Vail, the following evidence-based supportive services are offered at no cost to our cancer patients.

Massage & Reiki

Call (970) 569-7645 or email hawkinsb@vailhealth.org to schedule a massage session.

Massage therapy has been proven to stimulate the release of substances that relieve pain and create a feeling of well-being. It increases blood and lymphatic circulation and relaxes and benefits mood. Individuals experiencing lymphedema, in particular, benefit from massage.

Reiki is a form of energy healing in which the practitioner helps to direct the flow of healing energy within and around the patient. It is a gentle therapy which involves a series of hand placements on the individual’s body. The benefits of Reiki include promoting relaxation, balance, and healing, and it can help to decrease pain, nausea, stress and anxiety.

Appointments are scheduled at Jack's Place with specialized oncology massage trained therapists. All patients are encouraged to check with their oncology physician prior to receiving massage therapy.

Guided imagery

Guided imagery is a gentle, yet powerful technique that focuses and directs the mind by engaging all five senses. It is easy to learn and can help reduce some of the unpleasant side effects of cancer such as anxiety, fatigue, fear of medical procedures, and pain. Guided imagery has the ability to increase quality of life through coping, relaxation, hopefulness, and confidence.
