Vail Health cre\u00f3 el Premio Elevate en junio de 2022 para brindar a los pacientes y sus familias la oportunidad de nominar y agradecer a los empleados que han tocado sus vidas de alguna manera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La Dra. Grafals fue nominada por Susan Scott, de Gypsum (Colorado), por la atenci\u00f3n prestada a su difunto esposo, David Scott, tanto durante como despu\u00e9s de su trasplante de ri\u00f1\u00f3n. David fue profesor, entrenador, director deportivo y administrador en la escuela secundaria Eagle Valley High School durante casi 30 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMi esposo, David, era muy conocido en nuestra comunidad por su creatividad en la ense\u00f1anza y su excepcional entrenamiento. Era un gran padre y priorizaba la familia, la fe y el amor por la escuela y la comunidad cada d\u00eda\u201d, dijo Susan. \u201cM\u00f3nica Grafals era amable pero firme, cari\u00f1osa pero realista, inteligente y cercana. Hizo re\u00edr a Dave, pero aun as\u00ed se asegur\u00f3 de que entendiera el abrumador proceso por el que iba a pasar\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El Dr. Grafals era m\u00e9dico en UCHealth, en Denver, donde Dave recibi\u00f3 un ri\u00f1\u00f3n donado por Heidi McCollum, fiscal del 5.\u00ba Distrito Judicial del condado de Eagle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEl trasplante de Dave fue exitoso. Heidi y Dave se estaban recuperando\u201d, dijo Susan. \u201cCuando llegamos a casa, ten\u00edamos varias citas programadas. Dave estaba triste por no tener al Dr. Grafals a su lado, pero toda la comunidad lo apoyaba y \u00e9l se manten\u00eda positivo.\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Un d\u00eda, ten\u00edamos una cita en Colorado Mountain Medical en Avon, Colorado. Dave escuch\u00f3 su risa antes de que ella entrara. Cuando Monica Grafals entr\u00f3 a su nueva oficina, Dave fue recibido con su sonrisa alegre y abrazos. Su querida doctora estaba all\u00ed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Como la Dra. Grafals hab\u00eda conseguido un nuevo trabajo en la comunidad, tanto Dave como Susan pod\u00edan verla regularmente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLa Dra. Grafals continu\u00f3 anim\u00e1ndolo, d\u00e1ndole consejos sabios y ayud\u00e1ndolo a comprender de manera realista su salud en declive con compasi\u00f3n. Lo alent\u00f3 a seguir disfrutando de la vida mientras era honesta acerca de su pron\u00f3stico\u201d, dijo Susan. \u201cDave vivi\u00f3 una vida mucho m\u00e1s larga gracias a sus incre\u00edbles habilidades como doctora, su capacidad para ayudarlo a reflexionar sobre las bendiciones que ya ten\u00eda y su don para tratarlo como el paciente m\u00e1s importante entre todos sus muchos otros pacientes.
