Doctor del departamento de emergencias nominado por su atenci\u00f3n excepcional<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Scott McCorvey, MD, m\u00e9dico del Departamento de Emergencias de Vail Health, ha sido nombrado octavo destinatario del Premio Elevate de Vail Health. Vail Health cre\u00f3 el Premio Elevate en junio de 2022 para dar a los pacientes y sus familias la oportunidad de nominar y agradecer a los empleados que han tocado sus vidas de alguna manera.<\/p>\n\n\n

Originario de Georgia, McCorvey complet\u00f3 su pregrado en Biolog\u00eda Celular en la Universidad de Georgia, su Maestr\u00eda en Ciencias en la Universidad Estatal de Colorado (donde conoci\u00f3 a su esposa, Kirsten), seguido de su doctorado en Medicina en el Medical College of Georgia en Augusta y su residencia en el Maine Medical Center en Portland, ME. Se uni\u00f3 a Vail Health en 2016 y es un \u00e1vido kayakista y ciclista con un esp\u00edritu competitivo que siempre se esfuerza por ser lo mejor que puede ser en todo lo que hace. Padre de dos hijas, McCorvey y su familia disfrutan de caminar, andar en bicicleta, esquiar y ver pel\u00edculas juntos.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cSobre todo, Scott es un hombre de familia profundamente amoroso y leal, un esposo devoto y un padre cari\u00f1oso\u201d, dijo Kirsten McCorvey. \u201c\u00a1Estoy incre\u00edblemente agradecida de que haya sido reconocido con este premio porque s\u00e9 que si pone la mitad del esfuerzo en ser m\u00e9dico del que pone en ser esposo y padre, se lo merece m\u00e1s que de sobra!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

McCorvey fue nominada por Elizabeth McDaniel, empleada de Vail Health y directora del Family Birth Center, por el servicio que McCorvey brind\u00f3 tanto a su difunta madre como a su padre, John Gottlieb.<\/p>\n\n\n

McCorvey trat\u00f3 originalmente a la madre de McDaniel, Lynn Gottlieb, en mayo de 2023, cuando acudi\u00f3 con dolor abdominal severo derivado de su c\u00e1ncer de colon avanzado. McCorvey ayud\u00f3 a garantizar que los deseos de Lynn al final de su vida fueran escuchados y comunicados a su familia y al resto del personal m\u00e9dico. Esa noche, cuando Lynn falleci\u00f3 en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos, sus deseos de no ser intubada ni resucitada fueron respetados gracias a la comunicaci\u00f3n proactiva de McCorvey.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cEsta es una conversaci\u00f3n muy dif\u00edcil de tener con un paciente, y no conozco a muchos m\u00e9dicos de urgencias dispuestos a tener conversaciones sobre el final de la vida con los pacientes\u201d, dijo McDaniel. \u201cLa doctora McCorvey nos dio a todos un lugar para tener esta conversaci\u00f3n y comprender plenamente los deseos de mi madre para su atenci\u00f3n al final de la vida\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Solo seis meses despu\u00e9s, el 11 de noviembre de 2023, el padre de McDaniel, John Gottlieb, la llam\u00f3 y estaba muy enfermo en casa. Una ambulancia lo transport\u00f3 al Departamento de Emergencias de Vail Health, donde McCorvey estaba trabajando. McCorvey revis\u00f3 el historial de John antes de su llegada.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cEl Dr. McCorvey vio lo complicado que es mi pap\u00e1 como paciente, con muchos problemas m\u00e9dicos\u201d, dijo McDaniel. \u201cDiagnostic\u00f3 a mi pap\u00e1 con sepsis severa, con una supuesta fuente de infecci\u00f3n en una herida en la pierna de mi pap\u00e1. Realiz\u00f3 todos los estudios para la sepsis y comenz\u00f3 a tratarlo inmediatamente por sepsis severa\".<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cAproximadamente dos horas despu\u00e9s, la presi\u00f3n arterial de mi padre comenz\u00f3 a bajar r\u00e1pidamente. Estaba en shock s\u00e9ptico y vimos c\u00f3mo su cuerpo intentaba morir\u201d, dijo McDaniel. \u201cEl Dr. McCorvey nos pregunt\u00f3 nuevamente si mi hermano y yo sab\u00edamos cu\u00e1l era su estado de reanimaci\u00f3n, asegur\u00e1ndose de que si entraba en paro card\u00edaco, el equipo de atenci\u00f3n seguir\u00eda sus deseos\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Esta vez la historia tom\u00f3 un rumbo diferente y, con la ayuda del personal de la UCI, el servicio de urgencias y otros departamentos, lograron aumentar su presi\u00f3n arterial y traerlo de vuelta a la vida. John fue trasladado luego a Denver para recibir cuidados de UCI de mayor nivel, donde se recuper\u00f3 y pudo regresar a casa.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cMi pap\u00e1 sigue vivo hoy gracias a la atenci\u00f3n brindada por la Dra. McCorvey y el personal del Departamento de Emergencias, con un agradecimiento especial a Emily Brown y Eli DeSouza\u201d, dijo McDaniel. \u201cPerd\u00ed a uno de mis padres este a\u00f1o, y fue gracias a su atenci\u00f3n que hoy todav\u00eda tengo a mi pap\u00e1\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
