{"id":1351,"date":"2020-05-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-08T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vailhealth.org\/vail-healths-shaw-cancer-center-earns-national-honor\/"},"modified":"2020-05-08T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-05-08T07:00:00","slug":"vail-healths-shaw-cancer-center-earns-national-honor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vailhealth.org\/es\/news\/vail-healths-shaw-cancer-center-earns-national-honor\/","title":{"rendered":"Vail Health\u2019s Shaw Cancer Center earns national honor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons granted its 2019 Outstanding Achievement Award to the Shaw Cancer Center, one of a select group of 49 accredited cancer programs throughout the U.S. Award criteria were based on qualitative and quantitative surveys of cancer programs conducted throughout the year.<br> <br> &#8220;We are honored and thrilled to receive this prestigious recognition from the (Commission on Cancer),&#8221; said Stacy Toyama, Vice President of Shaw Cancer Center. &#8220;Our team prioritizes high quality care and to have an esteemed organization acknowledge is an honor that furthers Shaw&#8217;s renowned reputation.&#8221; <br> <br> The award is intended to:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recognize cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Motivate other cancer programs to work toward improving their level of care.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Facilitate dialogue between award recipients and health care professionals at other cancer facilities for the purpose of sharing best practices.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Encourage honorees to serve as quality-care resources to other cancer programs.<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCada vez m\u00e1s, descubrimos que los pacientes y sus familias quieren saber c\u00f3mo se comparan las instituciones de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica de sus comunidades entre s\u00ed\u201d, dijo Lawrence N. Shulman, MD, MACP, presidente de la Commission on Cancer. \u201cQuieren acceso a informaci\u00f3n sobre qui\u00e9n est\u00e1 brindando la mejor calidad de atenci\u00f3n y desean conocer los resultados generales de los pacientes. A trav\u00e9s de este programa de reconocimiento, me gustar\u00eda pensar que estamos desempe\u00f1ando un papel peque\u00f1o pero vital para ayudarlos a tomar decisiones informadas sobre su atenci\u00f3n oncol\u00f3gica\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 49 award-winning cancer care programs represent approximately 7% of programs surveyed in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;These cancer programs currently represent the best of the best when it comes to cancer care,&#8221; Shulman said. &#8220;Each of these facilities is not just meeting nationally recognized standards for the delivery of quality cancer care, they are exceeding them.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shaw Cancer Center has received a gold accreditation from the Commission on Cancer, the highest level achievable by the survey.
