Starting Hearts

For more information visit

Starting Hearts is a local nonprofit dedicated to saving lives by increasing awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) through free Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (DEFIB) training and access programs.
Founder Lynn Blake is an SCA survivor and resident of the Vail Valley, who attributes her saved life to CPR and early defibrillation. She now travels in “The Heart Rod," a decommissioned transit bus that has been converted to a CPR/DEFIB classroom on wheels, teaching people how to save lives.
Vail Health has partnered with Starting Hearts to place 50 new Automated External Defibrillators (DEFIBS) throughout Eagle County. Aiming to make the Vail Valley the safest place in the country to fall victim to out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest, the partnership between the two organizations will increase accessibility to automated external defibrillators and first-responder education and promote cardiac health for valley residents.
