Manager, Project Manager

Vail Health has become the world’s most advanced mountain healthcare system. Our updated 520,000-square-foot hospital opened in December 2020.  This state-of-the-art facility provides exceptional care to all of our patients, with the most beautiful views in the area, located centrally in Vail.

Roles based outside of our primary office can sit in any of the following states: AZ, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, ID, IL, KS, MA, MD, MI, MN, NC, NJ, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, and WI. Pay is based upon relevant education and experience.

A Manager, Project Manager in the Vail Health Project Management Office works in a fast-paced environment and is responsible for managing key components of strategic projects and innovative solution implementations for the betterment of Vail Health. This position has high visibility with Senior Leadership across the organizations assisting with strategic business development to provide solutions to address business needs. Managers are responsible for daily operations of the Project Management team ensuring adherence to Vail Health’s PMO processes for project management execution in a learning environment. Managers are responsible for concurrent initiatives as team lead and/or team member, based on resource requirements and has proven experience as a project management professional with experience working in a healthcare environment.

    1. Oversees hiring, performance evaluations, development of policies and procedures, terminations, education planning, scheduling, and quality control for staff.
    2. Manages and communicates a clear vision of the Vail Health Project Management Office, project objectives, and motivating team members.
    3. Maintains Vail Health Enterprise Project Mgmt. alignment, expertise and competencies utilizing project management methodologies and tools.
    4. Collaborates with project teams and stakeholders to provide solutions to emerging business needs
    5. Assists in strategic planning and develops work plans to support the expansion of existing programs and implementation of new services.
    6. Cultivates local and stakeholder partnerships and schedules and facilitates meetings related to Vail Health projects and initiatives.
    7. Monitors and assesses team progress against agreed upon deliverables and follows up as needed.
    8. Organizes program and project activities into manageable work packages for project team members and determines an effective approach to complete the work and resource coordination for project deployments.
    9. Influences change to improve performance results, organization effectiveness and/or systems/quality/services.
    10. Primary point of accountability for the delivery of Vail Health projects to meet objectives by managing the day-to-day activities of assigned projects of varying complexity.
    11. Ensures that appropriate timing, resources, and sequencing of the work efforts are aligned to produce the desired result within a given period.
    12. Supports Vail Health’s Leadership in scheduling and prioritizing workload given resource constraints.
    13. Manages Vail Health PMO deployment project schedules to minimize intra-project resource conflict and facility activity conflict.
    14. Monitors project activities and reports on status utilizing Vail Health standard reporting processes and tools and identifying potential scope changes.
    15. Reviews quality of work and managing integration of team members’ work.
    16. Coaches those working on activities to clarify assignments and deliverables, documenting, and analyzing lessons learned and sharing with others, and identifying and managing risks and issues.
    17. Validates the completion of project documentation and relevant knowledge bases.
    18. Role models the principles of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.
    19. Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

  • 5 years of project management experience required.
  • Healthcare project management experience preferred.
  • Previous experience and/or demonstrated ability to manage and mentor people successfully preferred. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cerner solutions preferred.

  • Project Management Professional and/or equivalent (PMI Certifications) preferred
  • Change Management Certifications (PROSCI Certification) preferred
Computer / Typing:
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Previous experience supporting Windows servers.
  • Strong computer, problem solving and analytical skills, including data analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in healthcare, business, science, information technology, change or project management or related field required.
