Infection Control RN/ Presurgical Planning Supervisor

 Pay Range: Min: $ 43.54 Max: $65.31. Pay is based upon relevant education and experience.


The Infection Control RN/Presurgical Planning Supervisor will set standards and evaluate compliance for practices that are associated with the prevention and control of health care associated infections (HAI). These responsibilities include, but are not limited to; surveillance, analysis, reporting, and recording activities. Additionally, coordinate and provide education and training needs specific to presurgical planning systems. Operates independently, acting as a consultant for clinical areas, directors and mangers as assigned for all surgery centers; Vail Valley Surgery Center (VVSC) Vail and Edwards, Dillon Surgery Center and Steadman Philippon Surgery Center.


  1. Performs infection control surveillance responsibilities including reporting to governing agencies.
  2. Investigates all identified potential/actual HAI's for all surgery centers, VVSC Edwards and Vail, Dillon Surgery Center and Steadman Philippon Surgery Center.
  3. Communicates with staff (nursing and physician) regarding pertinent infection control issues and develops collaborative solutions.
  4. Prepares reports regarding surgical site infections and other infection control issues to be reported to Leadership/Management, the Medical Quality Assurance Committee and the Governing Council.
  5. Performs Infection Control Program assessment, develops annual IC risk assessment & revises the Infection Control & Prevention Plan, as indicated.
  6. Provides annual education to members of the medical staff & periodic education to clinical staff regarding infection control & epidemiologic issues.
  7. Collaborates with the Facilities Department regarding construction, renovation & other facilities-related issues.
  8. Supervise presurgical planning employees throughout all surgery centers, VVSC Edwards and Vail, Dillon Surgery Center and Steadman Philippon Surgery Center to ensure streamline patient screening and facilitate ongoing educational training on current software utilized.
  9. Supervisory responsibilities to include but not limited to: orientation and training, written employee evaluations, maintain employee records, motivate, counsel and discipline employees as necessary.
  10. Participates in unit and organizational quality improvement processes. Role models the principals of a Just Culture and Values. Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

  • Experience:
    • 5 years of experience in healthcare required
    • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience
    • Presurgical planning experience preferred
    • Infection prevention experience preferred
  • License(s):
    • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado or from a valid compact state, required.
  • Certification(s):
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
    • Certified Ambulatory Infection preventionist (CAIP) preferred but not required.
  • Computer / Typing:
    • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
  • Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Education:
    • Minimum of Associate Nursing Degree for positions hired after 07/01/2018.
